Gage Crowell moved to 5-6 on the young wrestling season at the 20-team Fran Jorgensen Invite in Cambridge Saturday.

Crowell went 1-2 in the nine-man 170-pound weight class.

“It was not the best day of wrestling we have had this year,” said Coach Chad Cochran. “I would have liked to go into Christmas break on a better note, but we will hopefully have a good week of practice before taking some days off.”

Crowell opened the Invite with a loss by pin to Superior’s Junior Reed.

Crowell came back with a quick pin of Aaron Brakenhoff of Hastings.

Crowell was then pinned by Ben Rieckman of Harvard to end the day.

Cochran said they know Crowell could have won both of the matches he lost.

“Gage ended up having to wrestle 170 again Saturday to follow his decent plan but will be able to wrestle 160 at the Dundy County Invite Jan. 5,” said Cochran.

The wrestling season will continue after the holiday break with invites closer to home.

Besides the Dundy County-Stratton Invite, the Chase County Invite will be Jan. 12 and the RPAC tournament will be at Dundy County-Stratton Jan. 18.
