The Wauneta Breeze recently welcomed a new staff member. Christi Christner joined the Breeze crew in May as an intern.

“I like writing and taking pictures and I was interested in journalism for a while last year,” said Christner of why she pursued the internship.

Christner will learn all aspects of newspaper production including news and feature writing, photography, page layout and design, ad design and sales and other behind the scenes aspects of production.

“Even though Christi has only been with us at the Breeze a short time, I’ve been very impressed with her initiative to try new things and how quickly she’s learning,” said Sheri Hink-Wagner. “She shows great promise as a journalist and is already a valuable member of the Breeze team.”

Christner is very active both in the community and at school. She participates in volleyball, cheerleading, speech, one act and choir at school. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, served as freshman class treasurer and was a member of the student council during her sophomore year.

She also keeps busy with her volunteer work around town where she is very active within her church, the Hamlet Union Church. She has gone on mission trips through her church including a week-long trip to Chicago last summer. She has also volunteered at Mercy Meals in Wauneta.

Christner’s plans for after high school are not yet set in stone. She says she knows she’ll go to college but has not yet nailed down where or what for just yet.

Christner is the daughter of Steve and Vicki Christner, and will begin her junior year at Wauneta-Palisade High School in the fall.
