The Wauneta-Palisade volleyball team completed a regular season sweep of the Wallace Wildcats Tuesday, Oct. 29, and, with a 3-0 defeat of Maywood Monday, prepared to face Wallace one last time in 2013, Tuesday in the subdistrict finals.

Broncos win 3-0 at Wallace

Wanting a good win heading into subdistricts, Coach Michelle Harchelroad got her wish at Wallace.

The Broncos hit .318 while picking up a 25-16 game one win.

Sydnee Harchelroad had four kills in the set. Abbie Fanning and Tailor Lee each added two kills. Brooklyn Nordhausen had two kills, two blocks and two aces in the opening win.

Two Fanning kills and two Harchelroad aces got the Broncos off to a hot start in set two.

W-P opened up a 19-10 lead before Wallace closed the gap to 23-20. Another kill by Fanning and a Wallace attack error finished off the Wildcats.

The Broncos showed resiliency in game three, trailing for much of the game but holding off a Wallace game point and winning 26-24.

Consecutive aces by Ellie Lee kept the Broncos in the match and attackers Harchelroad, Fanning and Leiauna Alberts kept the pressure on Wallace. Trailing 23-24, Alberts served three straight points to seal the match.

Overall, the Broncos hit .274 in the match.

Harchelroad had 11 kills and hit .400. Fanning had nine kills and hit .318.

Nordhausen, E. Lee and Cassidy Rathe each had two aces and Harchelroad had three.

Subdistrict first round win

With a 3-1 win by Maywood over Hitchcock County, W-P faced the Tigers Monday evening.

The 10-16 Tigers put up a fight in the first two sets.

Both teams struggled in the first game. At one point, nine of the 10 points scored came off of attack or service errors.

Tied at 15, W-P finished off Maywood with 10-1 behind the serving of Alberts and Rathe.

Game two started off with two Maywood attack errors, a Nordhausen kill and a Harchelroad ace.

Maywood fought back to tie the game at 10 and hung around throughout the game.

W-P won the game 25-23.

The Broncos were more dominant in the evening’s final game.

Kills by Harchelroad, Fanning and Nicole Strand, plus an ace by Rathe, put the Broncos ahead 14-6 and the team coasted to a 25-11 win.

With the victory over Maywood, W-P advanced to face Wallace for the fourth time this season. Wallace made it to the subdistrict finals by beating 12-14 Hayes Center 3-1.
