Paul Behrends, son of Aaron and Sara Behrends, is a sophomore at W-P. (Sheri Hink-Wagner | The Wauneta Breeze)
Wauneta-Palisade student Paul Behrends has been selected to participate in the Nebraska All-State Choir.
Each year, approximately 3,000 of the best high school musicians in the state audition for the Nebraska All-State Band, Chorus, Jazz Band and Orchestra which are sponsored by the Nebraska Music Educators Association.
Selection as a member of one of these groups is one of the highest musical honors attainable in Nebraska.
Behrends will be among the 440 students selected to be a part of the 2013 All-State Chorus. Guest conductor for the group will be Andre J. Thomas – the Owen F. Sellers Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities and Professor Choral Music Education at Florida State University.
The chorus will rehearse Thursday, Nov. 21 through Saturday, Nov. 23 on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, the host site of the 2013 NMEA Conference/Clinic.
Besides rehearsals, students can spend their time visiting exhibits and watching a variety of musical performances.
A final public concert will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
Behrends will perform at 3:30 p.m./4:30 p.m. during the All-State Jazz Band and Chorus concerts.
All-State Band and Orchestra final concert will be at 6:30 p.m./7:30 p.m. that evening.
Auditioning in September, Behrends will participate as Bass I.
