The Wauneta-Palisade basketball teams jumped into action Saturday night, hosting Ogallala for exhibition games to benefit the Nebraska High School Hall of Fame.
Girls’ team wins 48-31
The Lady Broncos doubled up on Ogallala in three quarter’s action.
The teams played one varsity quarter followed by one JV quarter. The varsity played the final half.
Coach Betsy Johanson said her team played very well Saturday.
“It was a great place to start,” she said, adding, “We can build on that and improve throughout the season.”
Playing a C1 sized school didn’t bug W-P.
“Our girls know that it is always more about what we do and how we play than who our opponent is or what they do,” said Johanson. “We worry about what we can control, and the girls did a great job of playing with confidence and attacking, both offensively and defensively.”
Tailor Lee led the Broncos with 26 points. Abbie Fanning finished in double figures with 11.
Boys lose 30-66
WP and Ogallala played four quarters in the boys’ contest, but stats were not available.
Season begins Thursday
The games do not count on the teams’ season records.
Games officially begin Thursday when Wallace comes to town. Friday both teams will travel to Brady.
Dec. 13 the Broncos will travel to Cambridge and on Dec. 14 will host Southern Valley.
