The Wauneta-Palisade FFA chapter returned home from the Nebraska State FFA Convention last week with three top 10 finishes.

The Veterinary Services team of Lesley Towery, Nicole Strand, Cassidy Rathe and Tailor Lee finished fourth overall.

Individually Towery placed third and earned a purple ribbon.

Strand received a blue ribbon and Rathe red.

The same group earned a blue ribbon in Natural Resources.

Strand and Towery each earned a blue ribbon, Lee earned a red ribbon and Rathe white.

The group finished 17th out of 73 teams.

In welding, Landon Jutten was tenth in the oxy-acetylene category.

Sponsor Marilyn Houdek said Towery and Jutten each went on stage to receive their certificates and the Veterinary Services team did also.

The Livestock Management team of Joseph Sramek, Ellie Lee, Cameo Rector, Tryssta Duvel, Stephanie Acosta and Billy Straub did not place.

Houdek said the setup was very different from what the students had experienced at the district competition and it showed in the team’s scores.

Also competing at the convention was Logan Fischer in arc welding.

Labor Auction

Next is the FFA Banquet on Tuesday, April 22 and the public is invited to attend the FFA Labor Auction following.

The auction will begin at 7:00 p.m. MT with Mark Fanning volunteering as auctioneer.

Houdek expects 18-19 students to be bid on. A brochure will be available the night of the auction with the skills of each student, ranging from child care and cleaning to working cattle and driving a tractor.

The event will be held in the ag shop and proceeds will go to the FFA program.
