Harchelroad Motors in Imperial will be getting a new home by next summer.

Last week, Imperial Contracting began demolition of the steel building on East Hwy. 6 that formerly housed Curly Olney’s and most recently served as a warehouse for Luhrs Certified Seed and Conditioning.

The new location will be just west of Harchelroad’s collision and restoration facility just west of Alco on East Hwy. 6.

Sid Harchelroad said groundbreaking on the new facility will be held in early September with an approximate construction period of eight months.

“Out of the ashes” finally comes the new building, Harchelroad said.

In October of 2009 a fire destroyed the five buildings that made up the dealership, repair shop and body shop.

The new collision and restoration facility was completed in 2013.

Harchelroad said the new 29,000 square-foot building will be a complete GM Chevy and Buick dealership with sales, service and parts all under one roof.

He said completion of the new building will coincide with the 80th anniversary of Harchelroad Motors. The company also operates the original dealership which began in Wauneta.

Immediately after the fire, Harchelroads moved operations to a large car storage building immediately west across the street from the Imperial dealership.

Once the new building is complete, Harchelroad said they will continue to use the west facility in some capacity.
