Rising Christian music star Danny Gokey to appear at Fair

This year’s Christian Family Show at the fair will feature a former 2009 American Idol finalist who has risen to the top of the Christian music charts.
    Danny Gokey will take the stage at the Chase County Fair on Wednesday, Aug. 16.
    Gokey has transformed a career that began in country music to become one of the top performers in Christian music today.
    America watched closely as Gokey battled tragedy and won millions of hearts on his way to the finals of American Idol Season 8.
    His story was no secret: a onetime truck driver from Milwaukee, Wis., he had married his high school sweetheart, Sophia, only to lose her, a victim of surgery gone bad. That was just a month before auditioning for the smash hit talent show.
    His wife loved the show and before she died, he promised to try out.
    “And it helped bring me out of that darkness. I dealt with anger and bitterness and not wanting to live,” he said.
    “But this helped bring me out of it. When I went on the show people connected with my story. I think that they found hope in it. That changed everything,” he added.
    After American Idol, Gokey pursued his country music career in Nashville. He was nominated as Best New/Breakthrough Artist at the American Country Awards.
