Wauneta Chamber to host “Comedy Night”

Winter months in Wauneta’s southwest corner of Nebraska are not only lacking in sunshine, but also community events. In hopes of providing community members with something to make the colder months more fun, the Wauneta Chamber of Commerce is having its first annual winter event.
This year, Feb. 10, the Chamber will host a Comedy Night at the Wauneta Community Building.
The Chamber hopes to provide a winter event every year going forward, but does not guarantee a reoccurring theme.
A cash bar will open at 6p.m. MT/7 p.m. CT with a ribeye steak, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, dinner roll and dessert dinner following at 7 p.m. MT/8 p.m. CT.
Comedy Night will feature a performance by comedian Michael Joiner from Independence, Mo. He will take take the stage at 8 p.m. MT/9 p.m. CT.
Joiner is the first-place winner of Hollywood Improv’s “Funniest Comic in L.A.” in 2008, and a 2010 Christian Music Hall of Fame “Comedian of the Year” nominee. Joiner’s routines blend a sarcastic edginess with a devotion to clean humor. He has headlined at the LA Area Improvs, the Funny Bone, The Ice House and other comedy clubs across the country.
“We all (the committee) watched a clip of him, and voted. He was funny, but not too raunchy,” said Ariel Fanningb one of Comedy Night’s committee member.
The night will also include a silent auction with items donated by various local businesses. As of Tuesday Fanning had 18 businesses willing to donate something for the auction.
