Wauneta’s civil defense siren tested every month

Wauneta community members might have heard the town’s civil defense siren go off Saturday Nov. 4.
To clarify any confusion and prepare community members for the future, the siren community members heard was an annual monthly test.
Village Superintendent Bill Bischoff noted that the civil defense siren is always tested the first Saturday of every month.
There are three different sounds that come from the civil defense siren. The first is the noon whistle that blows at 12 noon Mountain Time every day.
An emergency fire whistle oscillates up and down in pitch. This signals that there is a fire, accident or a situation that needs the assistance of the Wauneta Volunteer Fire Department. Fire fighters are also notified on hand held radios and cellphones.
