After missing the past three meets, Faith Lemon gets a pin in an exhibition match Saturday at the Southwest Invite. Lemon is WP’s high schools second female wrestler, following in the footsteps of Michelle Hoskovec.

Mind over brawn is female wrestler Lemon’s mantra

t takes a little something extra to be a female in a male-dominated sport like wrestling.
For Faith Lemon that means bringing intensity and attitude to this season’s Wauneta-Palisade wrestling team.
It hasn’t been her dream season by any means. Lemon transferred from Dundy County-Stratton over the summer and was ineligible for first semester athletics, specifically volleyball and wrestling.
Then came an injury which has caused her to miss three January meets.
At Saturday’s Southwest Invite, Lemon said it’s been hard to sit out, no matter what the reason.
“It’s very hard to watch my team wrestle, and to watch them when I know they have more potential,” she said. “It’s frustrating that I can’t go out there. I’m mad more and more the day goes on”.”
As to why she’d rather hit the mat than the hardwood, Lemon said she loves everything about wrestling.
The WP junior grew up in a male-dominated household and would wrestle her older twin brothers, making the transition to competitive high school wrestling an easy one.
